  1. For some time, I have been trying to uncover information on the classified
  2. aircraft code-named SENIOR CITIZEN (Program Element 0401316F). Some people
  3. have claimed that SENIOR CITIZEN is a supposed hypersonic reconnaissance
  4. aircraft, also known as "Aurora".

  6. On August 19, 1994 I posted the following on the Internet:

  10. There has been a lot of speculation about the secret U.S. Air Force aircraft
  11. code-named SENIOR CITIZEN. Some people have stated that this code-name refers
  12. to a hypersonic SR-71 follow-on ("Aurora") while others have stated that
  13. it refers to the small bat-like Stealth aircraft that Steve Douglass
  14. photographed in New Mexico (sometimes referred to as the "TR-3A"). Based
  15. on a Department of Defense document that I just received, I will reveal
  16. what the SENIOR CITIZEN aircraft really is.

  18. SENIOR CITIZEN is an advanced transport aircraft!!

  20. According to Department of Defense document DoD7045.7-H, "FYDP Program
  21. Structure", October 1993, SENIOR CITIZEN (Program Element 0401316F) is a
  22. tactical airlift aircraft. It might be a STOL (Short Take-off and Landing)
  23. aircraft, because there have been several advanced STOL aircraft funded
  24. under program category 04013xxx.

  28. The picture is of a turbofan powered, low-observable ('Stealth') V/STOL
  29. advanced tactical transport design, and is taken from the technical paper
  30. "Technology and design considerations for an advanced theater transport",
  31. 1990, by Richard Wible, Technology Exploitation Directorate,
  32. Wright-Patterson AFB. This may be similar or very close to Program Element
  33. 0401316F, SENIOR CITIZEN. In the same GIF is a picture of a Boeing "Advanced
  34. Theater Transport" aircraft design, provided by a source who doesn't want
  35. to be identified.

  37. Based on what I know, I believe the following for the SENIOR CITIZEN
  38. aircraft:

  40. * SENIOR CITIZEN is a low-observable, V/STOL turbofan powered aircraft.
  41.   It is not designed to carry heavy cargo, like tanks, which a C-5
  42.   can carry, but for troops (probably Special Operations Forces) and
  43.   their equipment.
  44.  
  45. * The aircraft is probably manufactured by Boeing. It should also be
  46.   pointed out that Boeing has a fairly elaborate radar cross section
  47.   (RCS) range, that would be needed to test the Stealth characteristics
  48.   of the design.
